A Visit to Mauna Kea on the Big Island of Hawaii
The thought of traveling to the Big Island of Hawaii probably conjures up visions of palm trees, grass skirts and luaus, not snow and telescopes. This dormant volcano is almost perfectly suited as a terrestrial base for some the most advanced telescopes on the planet. Don't visit the Big Island without including a trip to Mauna Kea. We enjoyed it so much, we went twice.
